Artistic Director - Mr. Vasyl Kanevets
Mr. Vasyl Kanevets, born in Kyiv Ukraine, began his dancing career at the age of five at the Kyiv Central Palace of Pioneers. This exciting experience then brought him to the National Ballet School of Kyiv, where he received his Professional Dancer Diploma. Later on, he performed with
Nadzbruchanka Ukrainian Folk Dance Ensemble of Ternopil, Ukraine, followed by the Military Song and Dance Ensemble in Kyiv. Following this, he attended the Institute of Culture where he completed his Ballet Masters Degree with
honors. Mr. Kanevets then continued on as an instructor at the Children's Choreographic School #1, where his students received the second and third diplomas in the National Ballet Competition of Ukraine. He also lent his choreographic skills to the musical theatre production of “A Musical Shop” for the Children's Opera in Kyiv.
In 1995, Vasyl moved to Canada where he continued to work as a professional dance instructor and choreographer. In addition to teaching full time at various dance schools across Alberta, he also continued his involvement with ballet by becoming an active member and now the vice-president of the Vaganova Dance Society in Edmonton. Through this organization, Vasyl had created choreography for the following ballet performances: “Tin Soldier”, “One Thousand and One Nights”, “Snow Queen”, “Caravan of Colors”, “Kaleidoscope”. In 2005, Mr. Kanevets joined Calgary's Tryzub
Ukrainian Dance Ensemble as Artistic Director.
